What People Say
Vapor Barrier Installation or Full Encapsulation?
A ground vapor barrier helps limit moisture evaporating from exposed soil.
Full encapsulation takes a broader approach by sealing the liner and addressing other pathways for moisture and outdoor air.
The right choice depends on what is happening beneath your home. Some crawl spaces need an improved ground cover. Others need more extensive sealing and humidity control. We explain the difference during your inspection so you understand what the proposed work includes.
Our Crawl Space Encapsulation Process in Raleigh, NC
Inspect the Space and Find the Moisture Source
We check accessible areas for damp materials, visible mold, damaged insulation, and gaps in the existing ground cover. We also look for signs of leaks and water entry.
You receive an explanation of what we found and the recommended scope before work begins.
Address Mold and Water Problems
Encapsulation should not cover up an existing problem. If mold is present, we include the necessary remediation in the plan. Active leaks, standing water, and drainage concerns also need attention before the space is sealed.
We explain which preparation or repairs your crawl space requires.
Prepare the Crawl Space
The installation area needs to be clear enough for the liner to fit properly. Preparation may include removing debris, damaged ground covering, and affected materials identified during the inspection.
This step helps create a stable surface and makes it easier to seal the barrier around obstacles.
Install and Seal the Vapor Barrier
We fit the vapor barrier over exposed soil and seal overlapping seams. The liner is secured around foundation walls, support piers, and penetrations as appropriate for the crawl space.
A continuous installation helps limit moisture rising from the ground.
Crawl Space Mold Removal and Encapsulation
Mold removal and encapsulation solve different parts of the same problem.Remediation addresses existing mold on affected materials. Encapsulation helps control the moisture conditions that can allow new growth.
If your crawl space has both mold and excess moisture, we plan the work in the right order. A new liner should never be used to hide contamination or damaged wood.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does crawl space encapsulation remove mold?
No. Encapsulation controls moisture, but existing mold requires separate remediation. We inspect for contamination and explain any treatment needed before installing the barrier.
Will encapsulation stop crawl space flooding?
A vapor barrier does not fix flooding or active water entry. Drainage problems, plumbing leaks, and other water sources need to be addressed as part of the overall plan.
Do I need a dehumidifier after encapsulation?
That depends on the crawl space and the humidity-control approach used. Sealing the space does not automatically remove moisture already in the air. We assess the conditions and explain whether a dehumidifier is appropriate.
How long does crawl space encapsulation take?
The timeline depends on the size of the space, access, preparation, and any mold or moisture problems that need attention first. We provide a project timeline after the inspection.
Does an encapsulated crawl space need maintenance?
Yes. The liner and seals should be checked for damage, and any humidity-control equipment needs regular care. New plumbing leaks or drainage problems also need prompt attention.
Can you encapsulate a crawl space with damaged insulation?
We assess the insulation before installation. Wet, mold-affected, or fallen insulation may need removal or replacement. We explain what is needed and include it in the project recommendations.
